In 2015, same-sex couples in the U.S. finally earned the long-fought-for right to legally marry. This meant that all of the federal rights conferred to couples by marriage were now available to all couples. While not every LGBTQ+ person desires to marry, the opportunity to do so is just one more way the fight for equality moved forward.
